i want candy

It's no secret that my wardrobe has a high turnover rate. Items have to really impress me if they're to stick around for over a year. Usually they're bought, worn, grown bored of then whacked up on eBay to provide funds for future purchases. And while I'm currently preparing a huge box full of items for my eBay store, I may also be trying my luck on Covert Candy, a new Swap Shop style site which launched today.

Covert Candy operates on the premise that the clothes we want are lying in other people's wardrobes not being worn, and the clothes we no longer wear may be exactly what someone else is looking for.

After creating a profile users can sell items for 'credits' (equivalent to £1) and purchase new items with the credits they accumulate. No annoying paypal set up or eBay fees here. The concept is simultaneously retro and oh-so-2009 with the continuing talk of the dreaded credit crunch. And if enough fashionable folk sign up, using Covert Candy could be as much fun as browsing through the wardrobes of stylish strangers and picking out your favourite bits. For free.

love it that something like this is based in the UK, I was kinda getting sick of everything good being in the US :P (suffering from not owning a proper credit card, US sites don't accept SOLOs, damnit) Thanks for this!

great idea, it would be cooler if international however! :) Ah well, I guess some of us gals have to get together and start one in N. America...

Yeah, has anyone heard of something like this for the states? Sounds so much better than stupid Plato's Closet.

Such a good, credit-crunch-friendly idea! My clothing also tends to have a ridiculously short lifespan.. this may be an answer!!

I think I've spent too much time reading your blog. I just had a nap and dreamed you were VERY ANGRY because MY mother would not buy you alcohol (a giant wine 'keg' in the shape of Stalin).

I've tried this concept with books before, but with clothes...I AM SO EXCITED! But then I realized it was only for people from the UK and I died a little inside.
